Mission Statement
The Ferris Fire Department is devoted to protecting the lives and property of our community, visitors and neighbors by providing professional emergency services with absolute compassion and most honorable integrity.
Founded in 1902, The Ferris Fire Department proudly protects approximately 9,000 residents living in an area of 29 square miles. We operate out of two fire stations that protect both residential and commercial properties. We provide Class III protection within the city limits and Class V in our unincorporated area within 5 miles of the station. Our department is a combination department whose members serve in either a paid or volunteer status. Our manpower is comprised of 3 full-time Captains, 3 full-time Firefighters, 6 part-time Firefighters, and volunteers. We continually strive for the highest level of customer satisfaction while delivering services in the safest and most efficient manner possible.
Of the 1,100+ calls for assistance we respond to each year, over 80% are for emergency medical services (EMS). We provide basic life support and have advance life support capability. In addition to emergency medical, fire and rescue responses, our Fire Prevention Division oversees fire inspections, arson investigation, plans review and life safety education programs. A vital component of the Fire Department and Police Department is the Office of Emergency Management. Its primary responsibility is to plan for and mitigate any natural or man-made emergency that might threaten the City of Ferris.
Since September 11, 2001, the fire service has changed dramatically. In response to new threats to the security of our homeland, the Ferris Fire Department’s Special Operations Teams constantly train in many disciplines. This Team consists of 12 cities within Ellis and Dallas Counties and is referred to as E.D.U.C.T. (Ellis & Dallas Unified Cooperative Team). The Team consists of Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, Swift Water Rescue Incident Response, and Communications teams all work together to form an all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness and response.
Additional programs offered by the Ferris Fire Department include Fire Station Tours, Fire Extinguisher Training, Safety Inspections, and Public Fire Education. Our proactive approach to public safety and citizen involvement is best represented through these programs. We invite you to learn more about all of these programs and the services provided by Ferris Fire Department. We also have open Volunteer Opportunities where you will find opportunities to serve your community while learning valuable skills that may help save the life of a friend or loved one. We value our citizens and corporate partnerships, as it is through these relationships that our Department is better equipped to complete our mission.
If you are visiting us, we welcome you to our City. If you are a resident of our City, please stop by your neighborhood fire station and meet your City’s firefighters and medics. We are proud to be YOUR Fire Department and stand ready to serve you whenever and wherever needed!
